KITCHEN ISLAND

Made from poplar with maple legs. Carrera Marble top. The 3 ft. x 5 ft. island was to resemble a large country pastry table. The black finish is a waterbased stain, partially buffed off in places to resemble wear from age. Clear satin wiping varnish over the stain. There is seating for 3 at the back and side, with stools that fit neatly underneath. Legs from Osborne Wood Products

Insert on the side will hold cookbooks with 4 bottles of wine underneath. The color in this space seems to really break up the stark black look of the island.

The "sitting" side of the island. Two stools fit under the longer side, one under the short side. The under-counter cabinet was raised off the floor to give a floating effect, and to allow toe room while sitting. The back and side of the cabinet are frame and panel construction, as they are visible.

Well-needed storage in the cabinet. The 3 pull-out shelves are height-adjustable in 1/2-inch increments. They are on full-extension drawer slides, rated at 100 lbs per pair. Two drawers are above. Drawer hardware from Rockler Woodworking

A good view of the marble top.
